UofG awarded contract to deepen understanding of gambling behaviours
Summary
The University of Glasgow and the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) have secured a four-year contract from the Gambling Commission to continue delivering the Gambling Survey for Great Britain (GSGB). Launched in 2024, the GSGB has quickly become a leading global gambling survey, providing unprecedented insights into gambling behaviors. The Commission highlighted the University of Glasgow’s analytical contributions to reports analyzing gambling motivations, gambler characteristics, and the relationship between gambling activities and problem gambling. Professor Heather Wardle of UofG emphasized the opportunity to enhance the GSGB by merging survey data with other sources and tracking behavioral changes over time. The next phase will explore longitudinal research and data linkage to further understand evolving gambling behaviors, supporting the Commission’s commitment to evidence-based regulation.
