Australia’s Media Regulator Blocks Multiple Gambling Sites, Asks ISPs to Help
Summary
Australia’s communications regulator, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), has blocked access to multiple illegal gambling firms’ websites by implementing Domain Name Server (DNS) blocks through Australian internet service providers (ISPs). The ACMA also urged ISPs to proactively block additional illegal online gambling sites. Sites blocked include C***spin, Frumzi, Great Win, MyStake, Oh My Spins, RetroBet, Viperwin, and “The Dog House 2 Slot.” These sites were found to be in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. Since November 2019, the ACMA has blocked over 1,500 illegal gambling and affiliate sites and removed over 225 illegal online services from the Australian market since 2017. The regulator has also requested Google to remove illegally targeting domains, demonstrating an increased effort to curb illegal online gambling.
