Center blocks 300 illegal gambling and betting sites, apps
Summary
The Indian government has taken action against illegal online gambling and betting by blocking 300 websites and applications. This brings the total number of blocked sites and apps to approximately 4,800. The blocked platforms included sports betting sites, online casinos offering games like slots and roulette, and peer-to-peer betting exchanges. Authorities also targeted satta and matka gambling networks, as well as real-money card and casino game apps. Most of these platforms, nearly 4,900, were blocked following the enactment of the Online Gaming Act last year. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, was passed by Parliament on August 21, 2025, to address legal loopholes in the previously unregulated online domain, building upon existing restrictions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and state laws.
