Woman with gambling addiction used unlicensed sites before her death
Summary
Ellen Mulvey, a 44-year-old managing director at Meraki Talent, struggled with a long-standing gambling addiction and had self-excluded from licensed online gambling operators through GAMSTOP. However, her family states she continued to gamble on unregulated websites leading up to her death on November 7, 2025, at Macclesfield District General Hospital. An inquest is scheduled to open at Cheshire Coroner’s Court on April 17th to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. Evidence will be presented from her family regarding her addiction, her GP, and expert testimony from Baroness Clare Gerada, an addictions specialist, to determine if the gambling disorder contributed to her death. Colleagues at Meraki Talent have expressed deep sadness over her passing, highlighting her professionalism and dedication to inclusion and mental health awareness within the workplace.
