Boyd’s First Casino, The Pass in Henderson, Sold – Casino.org
Summary
ECL Water Street is set to acquire The Pass Casino from DeSimone Gaming this summer, giving it control of all three historic downtown Henderson, Nev. casinos. Originally opened in 1961 as the Wheel Casino, the property became the Eldorado a year later and was foundational to the Boyd Gaming empire. The sale, scheduled to close on August 1, 2026, pending regulatory approval, will allow ECL to manage the Emerald Island and Rainbow Club alongside The Pass. ECL plans to renovate the 17,756-square-foot property, which features 350 slot machines, six table games, and a Circa Sports-operated sportsbook. The Pass opened as the Wheel Casino in 1961, closed within a year, and reopened in 1962 as the Eldorado Casino, marking the first casino owned by the future Boyd Gaming empire. The Boyd family took full ownership in 1966 and formally transferred it into Boyd Gaming's corporate portfolio in 1993. After being sold to DeSimone in December 2020, the property reopened as The Pass on April 1, 2021.
