Amazon has agreed to settle a proposed class action lawsuit that could allow U.S. consumers to pursue more than $200 million in damages from third-party developers of social casino applications. The settlement, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, requires judicial approval. Although Amazon denies wrongdoing, it will assign to the plaintiffs a $201 million judgment against itself, enabling class members to recover funds from the app developers. The lawsuit alleged that Amazon facilitated payments for social casino games that violated Washington state gambling laws. Similar litigation continues against Apple, Google, and Meta.
