The Gujarat Police's State Monitoring Cell (SMC) conducted a major raid at Ahmedabad's Manpasand Gymkhana, apprehending 187 people. The operation revealed a highly organized gambling system designed to evade law enforcement. Instead of using cash at tables, players deposited money at a ground-floor office and received handwritten slips with coded values to hide the actual amounts.
Investigators found that the club's layout, including CCTV surveillance and a separate gaming hall, was specifically designed to maintain plausible deniability. While only Rs 3.30 lakh in cash was recovered, officials believe the true scale of the operation is much larger, involving digital transactions and hidden cash reserves. The investigation is currently focused on the main operator, Govind alias Gamo Patel, and other key staff members.
This raid marks the third major police action at this location in five years, following similar crackdowns in 2021 and 2023. Authorities are now expanding the probe to include UPI transactions and bank accounts to trace the full financial trail of the illegal betting operation.
