Planning permission has been sought from Leeds City Council for new signage and advertising on the Eastgate building. The casino licence was transferred from VGC Leeds Ltd to Merkur. A design report states the new signage will reflect Merkur branding while preserving the building's character near Grade I-listed Kirkgate Market. The 50,000 sq ft super casino, which opened in 2017 and operates 24 hours a day, offers slot machines, table games, roulette, and live sports screenings. Its licence had been suspended last year over money laundering concerns but was reinstated in November after significant improvements. Merkur Casino Entertainment UK, based in Milton Keynes, is part of the German Merkur Group.
