PRO: Nearly €1.6 billion was spent on gambling in Macedonia over six months
Summary
Despite the start of deadlines to move casinos, slot-machine clubs, and betting shops away from educational institutions, spending on gambling in North Macedonia remains high. According to data from the Public Revenue Office, citizens and foreign nationals paid almost €1.6 billion for gambling in the first six months of this year. Electronic gaming machines generated the largest volume of money, but casinos and betting shops also hold a significant share of the market. Operators in the sector oppose the relocation, arguing that it will not eliminate gambling and could push part of the activity into illegal, unregulated channels.
