Eleven Entities Including SkyCity, Entain and Stake Advance in New Zealand Online Casino License Auction
Summary
New Zealand's Department of Internal Affairs has advanced 11 entities, including SkyCity, Entain and Stake, to apply for online casino licenses following an auction with 32 bidders across 10 rounds. The license fee is set at NZ$15 million (US$8.4 million). The successful entities must now submit detailed plans on advertising, consumer protection, harm prevention and compliance. An application does not guarantee a license. From 1 December 2026, unlicensed providers must cease online casino operations. The framework aims to channel grey market activity into a regulated domestic environment, making New Zealand one of only two Asian jurisdictions with comprehensive regulated online gaming.
