No new bigger casino vessel will enter Mandovi for now: CM
Summary
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on Wednesday that no larger offshore casino vessel will be allowed to enter the Mandovi River as a replacement for an existing, smaller vessel, responding to concerns raised by residents and activists. A delegation from ‘Ponjekars Against Casinos’ met with Sawant to voice their opposition to the proposed new vessel, which would have increased capacity from 70 to 2,000 passengers. Sawant stated that while permission had been sought, the government has requested the company revise its proposal. Delegation members expressed satisfaction with the assurance, but also requested the official withdrawal of permission for the vessel replacement, and raised concerns about casino-related encroachment and advertising. The Chief Minister accused some individuals and opposition members of attempting to mislead the public for political gain.
