Opposition: Govt wants to establish ‘casino city’ in Dhargalim
Summary
Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, vehemently criticized the Goa government's decision to denotify 3.3 lakh sqm of land under the Tillari irrigation project in Dhargalim, Pernem. Alemao claims this move is intended to pave the way for casino investment, accusing the government of prioritizing financial gains from casino operators over local concerns and the preservation of Goan culture. He highlighted that the denotification is proceeding despite opposition from locals and MLAs, and dismissed the public consultation process as a mere formality. Alemao further alleged that the government is under the influence of the casino lobby and their allies, referencing previous issues like the pollution of the Mandovi river. He intends to raise the issue in the upcoming assembly session and demand clarification from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
