Plans for a casino on Highway 21 in Grand Bend are currently paused due to the Ontario Lottery Gaming Corporation (OLG) stating they have no plans to expand casino gaming in South Huron or the surrounding southwest region. In November, a developer showed preliminary interest in a casino ranging from 6,000 to 12,000 square feet, prompting South Huron council to endorse the former Boat Store property as a potential site and authorize discussions with governing bodies. However, OLG confirmed they have no expansion plans, effectively halting the project unless a proposal returns with both a developer and Gateway Casinos. The municipality has informed neighboring areas of this development, and this is not the first time a casino proposal for the Grand Bend area has been considered, with a similar motion passing in 2019 that ultimately did not lead to development.
