What's left in the Nittany Mall? Happy Valley Casino signals hope for some
Summary
The Nittany Mall, like many American malls, is facing decline with only 24 of 61 storefronts occupied. However, the upcoming opening of the Happy Valley Casino is offering a glimmer of hope to remaining business owners. Several, like Ling Vu of Nue Head Spa, chose to open specifically because of the casino, stating they “probably not” have opened otherwise. While some businesses, like La Caribbean Corner, aren't currently profitable, owners are optimistic the casino will bring increased foot traffic and potential customers. The mall's layout, requiring casino patrons to potentially walk through the mall, is expected to benefit shops. Namdar Realty Group, which owns the mall, has remained unresponsive to inquiries, but current tenants are hopeful for a positive impact.
