Plans for 24/7 casino rejected on Birmingham high street
Summary
A proposal by Luxury Leisure to extend the operating hours of its Admiral gaming shop on Bristol Road South to 24/7 has been rejected by planners. The shop, located in a former Boots Pharmacy unit, sought to operate around the clock, but the application was denied on April 22.
Local councillor Esther Rai expressed her satisfaction with the decision, stating a preference for businesses that encourage investment and community building. The decision comes amid growing concerns regarding the high density of betting and gaming shops in Northfield, which include brands like Betfred, Playland Amusements, Funspot Amusements, and William Hill.
Northfield MP Lawrence Turner has previously highlighted the link between these shops and local antisocial behavior, describing the proximity of betting shops to off-licences as a "revolving door" for community issues. As of late April, the Luxury Leisure group has not submitted an appeal against the rejection.
