Rank Group Casino Operators Settle with UK Gambling Commission for £5,012,261 Over AML and Safer Gambling Fail
Summary
Three Rank Group-owned casino operators—Grosvenor Casinos Limited, Grosvenor Casinos (GC) Limited, and Gaming Group Limited—have agreed to pay £5,012,261 to the UK Gambling Commission following anti-money laundering and safer gambling failures identified during a licence review covering 1 November 2024 to 1 May 2025. The operators run 51 casinos across Great Britain. The settlement includes £5 million to the Government's Consolidated Fund and the balance for the regulator's investigation costs. The failures included outdated AML policies not aligned with 2020 Money Laundering Regulations, inconsistent risk assessments for higher-risk customers, and inadequate checks: one customer lost £200,000 without proper identification, another recycled £85,000 in cash over 11 weeks without enhanced due diligence, and several patrons lost large sums without recorded interactions or effective reviews. Sue Young, Executive Director of Operations, warned that AML and social responsibility risks are equally present in land-based gambling. Rank Group had already provisioned for the settlement, described the issues as historical compliance failures, and confirmed no further profit impact. The operators must complete a third-party audit of their AML and social responsibility controls.
