Petersburg: Virginia Lottery Board signs off, temporary casino to open next week

The Virginia Lottery Board has given the green light for Live! Casino Virginia to open its temporary facility in Petersburg on January 22nd, after all regulatory requirements were met. The temporary casino will feature 75,000 square feet of gaming space. The project, a joint venture between The Cordish Companies and Bruce Smith Enterprise, is estimated to generate over $200 million in annual economic benefits and create 1,400 permanent jobs. A permanent casino, with over 450,000 square feet of gaming, hotel, dining, and event space, is also planned. Petersburg joins Bristol, Danville, Norfolk, and Portsmouth as approved casino locations in Virginia; Richmond’s bids were previously rejected by voters. This venture is considered the “largest economic and tourism project in Petersburg’s history.”
