Former gambling addict now supporting others
Summary
James Cooper, 37, overcame a severe gambling addiction that cost him his relationships, finances, and nearly his life. Starting at age 17, he became addicted to casino gambling and alcohol, accumulating significant debt and experiencing suicidal thoughts. After hitting rock bottom, he underwent rehab and found refuge at Hope housing in Bournemouth. Now, James dedicates his life to helping others facing similar struggles as a support worker for the charity. He emphasizes the importance of seeking help early, sharing his own experience of losing everything before finding recovery through rehab, AA meetings, education (earning a degree in sports & exercise psychology), and a commitment to a healthier lifestyle, including exercise and meditation. He now supports individuals experiencing trauma, abuse, addiction, and homelessness, and actively promotes fitness among Hope residents, expressing gratitude for his own journey to contentment and happiness.
