Cyprus casino revenue hits €227 million amid competition from Greece and UAE
Summary
Cyprus's casino revenues surged to €227 million in 2025, marking a 20% annual increase and exceeding European averages. However, the Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission is preparing for increased competition from the opening of casinos in Greece (Elliniko) and the UAE, as well as the significant presence of casinos in the occupied territories – currently 30, with 30 more planned. The authority’s 2026 budget is €3.68 million, focusing on risk management and responsible gambling, allocating 10% of funds to prevention and treatment programs. Officials also noted that while casino performance is strong, the integrated casino-resort is underperforming. Expansion of the Nicosia satellite casino and combating illegal online casinos are also priorities, alongside potential future mergers with other regulatory bodies.
