Investigation underway into death of man after San Pablo casino arrest
Summary
A 70-year-old man from El Cerrito died while in law enforcement custody on Saturday after being arrested at the San Pablo Lytton Casino. Police responded to a report of a banned guest refusing to leave the property around 10:44 p.m. Casino security initially detained the man, who was physically resisting, and had already handcuffed him when officers arrived. The man was arrested for trespassing and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. While at the jail, he experienced a medical emergency and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities state no force was used by San Pablo police during the arrest. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, and a joint investigation is underway between the San Pablo Police Department and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
