This move comes as rival Ho-Chunk Gaming Beloit prepares to open a $705 million complex in Wisconsin, prompting Hard Rock to break ground in September with an opening target of late 2027. The expansion aims to solidify Rockford's status as a regional entertainment destination and defend against the new competitor. Hard Rock, which opened its permanent facility in August 2024, expects the Beloit casino to initially cut into its revenues by about 20%. The hotel will showcase items from notable musicians, including guitars from Rockford native Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielson. Mayor Tom McNamara noted the agreement guarantees tax revenue in perpetuity, allowing the city to benefit from the casino's growth.
